I prefer a good old fashioned Bitcoin node, but... With all the nodes being deprecated for the latest node.. and since the Core and Knot nodes are at war, and giving the fact that nodes are being used to fork Bitcoin to whomever they please.. I really don't trust the core or knot devs... I kind of trust schildbach's mobile app. But ok. How long will that trust last?

So my best answer is to found and establish a new node, a better model, that's going to be difficult without help. But thanks to AI, I can find, understand, and learn hundreds of times faster than I can, but, I wish I was able to talk to the devs again, that was fastest.

+There should be an "official" open source Bitcoin announcement page.
    +
+How do you get what you want to say onto it?
    +
+You write a BLIP. Bitcoin language improvement protocol.
    +
+Then 51% of node operators approve the announcement and it gets published to the medium of choice. Like a webpage, or maybe even the blockchain
    +
+This becones the official unofficial place for Bitcoin information. So in 500 years students can look back at it and like the 10 commandments.
    +
+Or some shit like that, I dunno, don't listen to me
    +
    +Almost like

title: We need a Glacier Protocol 2.0 for Bitcoin Self-Custody to be taken seriously
    body:
We're constantly telling people to take their Bitcoin off exchanges, but we still don't really have a serious, broadly accepted security standard for how normal people should actually do it.

For years the advice was basically: **buy a good hardware wallet like a Coldcard**, and look at what's happening now.

Now the advice is becoming: roll your own dice, use multivendor multisig, pick an M-of-N setup, figure out backups, geographic distribution, passphrases, recovery, inheritance, etc.

At some point this gets ridiculous. **Regular people should not be expected to design their own security architecture.**

We need a well-funded, open-source standard that's maintained and reviewed by actual security experts. It should have clear risk models, explain the tradeoffs, and give people sensible setups based on their situation.

Right now we're basically telling people to secure their life savings by piecing together advice from Twitter, podcasts, influencers, and hardware wallet marketing/funding.

The Glacier Protocol was the last serious attempt at something like this that I know of. We need a modern Glacier Protocol 2.0.

And if the Bitcoin industry can't even raise the money to build and maintain something like this, maybe we shouldn't be surprised when normal people decide a professional custodian is better at securing Bitcoin than they are.
I would like self custody by individuals but it may just end up being bitcoin banks if we keep going like this.

This is just a fault of using an inherently and explicitly decentralized banking/value system, no?
