    title: Coldcard TRNG certification level

This guy asked a brilliant question two years ago. He did not receive any valid answer. In hindsight, it didn't age very well.

I am reposting this today, if Coldcard TRNG did not have EAL5+ or EAL6+ certification, can we consider hardware wallets from vendors that do pass those certifications more secure?

i looked into this before buying my coldcard and honestly the whole certification thing is a bit of a rabbit hole. the TRNG matters sure but what most people miss is how the seed gets generated in the first place, you can have the best random number generator but if the entropy source is weak its pointless

i sleep better knowing i can add my own dice rolls at setup, certification or not. feels more real than trusting some lab test i dont fully understand

Even if it was relevant, isn't is sort of a moot point considering TRNG was not used to generate the seeds?

The thing is, the RNG is only one of the moving pieces.

How to check this yourself

The excerpts and plain unified diffs above show the text this project held and how it changed. To verify a quotation, compare it against the page itself or against the Internet Archive's copies, which are independent of this project.

Complete captures are held offline rather than mirrored here, so this page shows diffs and excerpts. If a quotation is ever disputed, the full copy can be produced. Ask.
