Why does the firmware fingerprint show a different value than what’s in the releases.json when updating through Trezor suite? Makes it hard to trust anything. I don’t use the wallet because of it.

Trezor's 5 August scope statement: its devices are not affected by the COLDCARD vulnerability, followed by a twelve-post FAQ on who may need to move funds, how Trezor backups work and how to avoid related scams. The post links the fuller article registered at trezor-coldcard-not-affected. Registered as a polled thread so the whole FAQ is held rather than its first post alone. Follows trezor-2084552993471389722, which stated the same scope alongside a phishing warning.

This post is registered as evidence and has a locally held capture. The original remains the canonical publication. Last checked .

Replies are unmoderated third-party material, reproduced here as part of the record. Inclusion is not endorsement, and nothing in them has been checked by this project.
Replies held in this capture (77)

Low-signal replies are collapsed to one line, never removed. A reply is collapsed only on mechanical grounds: fewer than 40 characters, no text, mentions only, no letters or digits, a bare link, or text identical to another reply in the same capture. What a reply argues is never a reason. Each one says which rule collapsed it, and its screenshot is one click away.

Historically, we used 24 words for the Trezor Model One, where you had to enter backup words to the desktop (in the randomized order suggested by Trezor, so it was still secure) to increase security. Later, we introduced the Trezor Model T with a touchscreen, which allowed you to enter words directly on the Trezor, so 12 words became the way to go. Both formats are used in the industry, and both are safe to use. We cover this in more detail in this article

Trezor does not rely on one source of entropy. It combines entropy from the device and host, with additional independent hardware sources on Trezor Safe models. Entropy Check provides another safeguard by making parts of this process verifiable. Check our CTO's take on this

+Good that Trezor clarified backup steps. A printed or etched offline copy of your seed is the real fallback — never keep it where one hack wipes everything.

Recovery of the four replies that left the capture at 20260807T205826Z, with nothing leaving in exchange: ikigaimaster on passphrase generation, joh5452 on what Trezor Suite collects during a firmware update, and two Trezor replies from 6 and 7 August. Posts observed returned from 83 to 87 over 18 scroll rounds against 14, which confirms the previous pair as under-collection rather than deletion. The same 'Show more' gap is still declared.

+Trezor does not rely on one source of entropy. It combines entropy from the device and host, with additional independent hardware sources on Trezor Safe models. Entropy Check provides another safeguard by making parts of this process verifiable.

+Historically, we used 24 words for the Trezor Model One, where you had to enter backup words to the desktop (in the randomized order suggested by Trezor, so it was still secure) to increase security. Later, we introduced the Trezor Model T with a touchscreen, which allowed you to enter words directly on the Trezor, so 12 words became the way to go.

+Both formats are used in the industry, and both are safe to use. We cover this in more detail in this article

You know what would be nice? If just maybe it wasn’t closed-source code so we could verify that y’all don’t have a similar, hidden vulnerability.

+Hi, firmware update alone doesn't send your xpub anywhere. That only happens when checking balances, and that happens real time. IP hits our server just to grab the firmware file, same as any download. Nothing tracked beyond that.

+Also you can connect using our Tor feature or use your own node:

+Note: Just make sure you remember it. A passphrase is a good servant but a bad master. Sometimes it's better to keep it simple and not overcomplicate things. A well-generated wallet backup and a good passphrase are a powerful duo

How to check this yourself

The excerpts and plain unified diffs above show the text this project held and how it changed. To verify a quotation, compare it against the page itself or against the Internet Archive's copies, which are independent of this project.

Complete captures are held offline rather than mirrored here, so this page shows diffs and excerpts. If a quotation is ever disputed, the full copy can be produced. Ask.
